FEATURED ARTIST FRIDAY: James Chesney
James Chesney is an up and coming artist who recently signed to Careless Records. While making a name for himself in Chicago, James focuses his sound around a deep/tech house grove that’s sure to make you bust a move.
What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?
A comfortable blend of Deep House and Tech House. I find many of the deep melodies represent myself as an artist best. Accompany them with groovy tech house beats to keep the energy flowing and you've got yourself a pretty interesting mix.
Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.
Right now I am focusing on production, building a large portfolio of original tracks so my sets can be unique in many ways. My first release with Careless is coming up soon which is very exciting for me, I can't wait to share it with everyone.
What artists influence you/do you look up to?
Right now, one of the biggest influencers on production would have to be Josh Butler, his sound is very unique and has put out consistent bangers over the years as well as being from the UK so big ups. DJ EZ will always be someone I look up to when mixing, he has undoubtedly some of the best mixing techniques the UK has to offer.
What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)
My proudest moment of my music career would have to be getting a recording contract. It is definitely a step towards achieving my goals and being part of the careless team is great fun as everyone shares the same vision.
What DAW do you use?
Logic Pro and FL studio.
What are some of your favorite plug-ins?
Massive was the first synth I bought and is still fun the mess around with. However, Sylenth and Nexus have proven to be indispensable over the summer.
What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?
Flash drives... you never know who might not show up. Stickers and cards, promo never ends!
Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body. How do you stay healthy?
Health is key. I meditate to keep my mind focussed and exercise regularly to keep the energy flowing. On top of that, I am a huge foodie and love good natural food. There is too much food in America which has been pumped full of chemicals and we don't even know about, scary af!
What was your favorite show that you've played?
My favorite show would have to be my first show which was at Glastonbury 2015. I got the gig by chance and played to a small crowd of 20-30 people on a pop up stage. My friends were there with me to soothe the first gig nerves and dance through my entire set. Glastonbury is a very special place and I wish to get back there as soon as I can!
What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?
Silicone Valley is definitely one of my binge worthy shows. I also love the planet earth series, and anything about space! I have never seen Game of Thrones....
What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?
Do what you love. There are too many people in the world that go through life dissatisfied with their career which i find extremely upsetting. In order to be happy, you must be true to yourself. No one should be scared of failure or competition. That is where you learn the biggest lessons.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Huge thank you to Good Looks for featuring me and anyone who takes their time to read it! I'm excited to see any of you at my future shows and share with you all my new music! :) x
