align logo WHITE.png

Chicago based artist ALIGN creates thought provoking music for the everyday listener. Get lost in your imagination with mood altering, atmospheric sounds that set a perfect backdrop to take your mind somewhere else. The 23-year old has already appeared alongside industry leaders such as Illenium, Hayden James, Autograf, Thomas Jack, SNBRN, Vanic, Loud Luxury, & GTA. He has appeared multiple venues at home in Chicago as well as in multiple Midwest markets.

What genre would you describe yourself as? Why?

I like to describe the my genre as Indie-House or Indie-Electronic.

Tell us something that you’re doing now and are excited about.

I’m currently working on finally putting together an EP. I’ve been wanting to have a cohesive body of work that resembles what my project really is. I’m in the process of finishing it up and we’re getting ready to put it out in 2019!

What artists influence you/do you look up to?

The first electronic artist that I ever got into was Bonobo. So I’d say in terms of influence my roots bring me back to his catalog. Odesza really opened my eyes up to a lot of new things a few years ago when I was just getting into production, and they have an incredible live set. I’m also really into Big Wild and Mura Masa, they both have amazing music and awesome live sets.

What is your proudest moment so far? (blogged/signed/etc..)

My proudest moment would have to be finding out that my music was going to be used for an HP commercial. I was floored when I got the news, and it was a really inspirational moment that pushed me forward.

What DAW do you use?

Logic Pro X!

What are some of your favorite plug-ins?

I really like Massive. I create pretty much all of my synths by hand in it. I’m also a big fan of Maschine. I also enjoy the splice catalog too though.

What is something you cannot leave home without (besides keys, phone, wallet)?

Headphones and coffee.

Long days and nights in entertainment can take quite a toll on your body.  How do you stay healthy?

I’ve recently been doing yoga and finding some headspace before bed. On nights that I’m playing I try to monitor how much I drink and make sure I’m sleeping enough. I also try to get a few workouts in over the week as well to keep everything balanced.

If you had to do something else (outside of music), what would it be?

I work full-time at a tech company in Chicago right now! I’m currently challenging myself with both that and music as much as possible.

What was your favorite show that you've played?

I really enjoyed playing direct support for Hayden James. I was able to sit down with him for a while before the show which allowed me to ask some questions and us to have a fun conversation. The crowd was really receptive to my music since it’s in the same space as Hayden’s. It felt good to see positive reactions to my original tracks.

What’s your current favorite show (tv/Netflix/etc…) worth binging?

The new season of South Park!

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you while DJing?

At a summer festival I played, the sun was so bright that I couldn’t read anything on my computer or APC, and at the time I wasn’t using CDJs very much. I couldn’t see anything, and was guessing what to press which was pretty stressful.

What is something that makes you stand out as an artist?

I feel that the music I’m making isn’t over produced by other artists. It’s a solid blend of experimental elements, and familiar patterns or melodies that make it digestible to more people. I feel like the indie pieces of it are different for people at first, but grow on listeners over time.

What is a quote or phrase that you try to live by? Why?

Do what makes you happy! The last thing I want is to wish I had done something differently.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Music is something that has helped me work through some pretty crazy times in my life. I'm excited to continue creating, and I hope that the music I make can reach someone in the way that other music has reached me.
